IPL Photo rejuvenation, with little to no downtime, Intense Pulsed Light, a safe and non-invasive technology is used to address skin color and texture irregularities. Redness, broken capillaries, brown spots and general signs of aging are all treated to reveal smoother revitalized skin. For optimum results 3-6 treatments every 3 weeks is advised. Hands, arms chest face and neck can all be treated to reveal healthy glowing skin. We use the Palomar Intense Pulsed Light system to achieve best results.
We love Photofacials. It improves texture, color and is ideal for significantly improving sun damage. Most people will need at least two Photofacials but some will need 3-5 done every 3 weeks or so.
IPL treats a wide variety of skin conditions:
- Sun damage
- Flushing
- Skin texture
- Redness
- Broken capillaries
- Brown spots
- Age spot
- Sun-induced freckles on the hands, chest, and face
- Broken capillaries around the nose
How does IPL work?
IPL is capable of two processes at once. During treatment, the IPL wavelength is optimized so that the energy is absorbed only by the unwanted melanin, raising the temperature to cause shattering of the pigment. Deeper level damaged blood vessels are treated at the same time. Shortly after treatment, the unwanted pigment cells (or melanin) have been thoroughly fragmented without damage to the surrounding tissue. Vascular lesions (spider veins) also coagulate and shrink, many of them disappearing altogether. In the weeks after treatment, the shattered Melanin particles are eliminated by your body’s own little “clean up” system that absorbs fragmented pigment. Little or no trace of the initial pigmentation spots or spidery veins remain.
What after-care is needed?
Basically nothing beyond normal use of sun protection. Because the treatment is gentle, there is no interruption of routine activities. However, if you have visible sun damage you should expect that those will darken and look like coffee grounds on the face for the leading week. Most of our clients are able to use make up and go about their routine.
What can I expect from IPL treatments?
By helping to remove the age spots, sun-induced freckles and broken capillaries, you’ll have overall younger looking skin. Improvement is subtle and accomplished over a series of treatments so your skin will not appear obviously treated.
Who is a candidate for IPL Photofacial Treatments?
In our experience skin types 1-II seems to respond best, with the least possibility of side effects associated with IPL. We recommend that you are as pale as you can be and have not had any active exposure to the sun in the prior 6 weeks. We should add that we do many Asian skin types that respond well to IPL Photofacials.
